Kybella: Kybella is the first and only FDA approved nonsurgical treatment that contours and improves the appearance of sub-mental fullness. Sub-mental fullness, sometimes referred to as “double chin”, is a common yet under treated facial aesthetic condition that can impact a broad range of adults, including both men and women. The sub-mental fullness may be caused by aging, genetics, or weight gain. Sometimes regardless of diet and exercise, the condition may not go away, and can make you look older and heavier than you actually are. Kybella works by an active ingredient called deoxycholic acid. This is a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into the fat beneath your chin, Kybella causes the destruction of the fat cells. Once destroyed these cells cannot store or accumulate fat. Many patients treated with Kybella experienced visible contouring of their chin profile in 2 to 4 treatments. After the treatment patients can expect swelling, bruising and numbness. Treatments are spaced 8 weeks apart and 2-6 treatments may be needed. Numbing is required.
Botox: Botox Cosmetic used on the forehead and brow wrinkles creates a more youthful and rested appearance. Botox is a purified protein administered in a simple, nonsurgical procedure and is indicated for the temporary improvement in the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines between the brows, lines on forehead and lines around the eyes (crow’s feet) Side effects are uncommon after the injection of Botox. Minimal bruising can be experienced near the injection site. Patients can expect to see results within days after your treatment. The appearance of the area between your brows may continue to improve for up to a week. Results may vary. It is important to remember that Botox only stops the movement of the muscle for the “lines in motion” if a patient is wanted to remove the lines at rest, continual use of Botox and time is required for improvement. The body’s tissue must build itself back up to restore the lines at rest. Numbing is not required and treatments are recommended every 3-4 months.
Filler: Fillers are injected underneath the skin — right underneath the wrinkle or lip itself — and act as a physical support system for the skin. Fillers add foundation to the skin and collagen and hold up areas that have become indented. It is especially effective on deep lines or wrinkles, the ones you can see even when your face is fully relaxed. They can also be used on any indentation in your skin, such as scars. Filler treatments are performed in the office and a topical cream is used to numb the area. The filler is then injected, using a very thin needle, and results can be seen immediately. Patients can get back to your normal activities the following day. Serious complications from fillers are rare—swelling, redness and tenderness might occur, but minimize over a few days. JUVÉDERM Ultra XC & JUVÉDERM Ultra Plus XC treatments last approximately 9-24 months. JUVÉDERM Voluma in the cheeks last 12-24 months. The length of time of wrinkle correction varies depending upon the filler used and the severity of the wrinkle. At Wallis Dermatology Associates we use the JUVEDERM family of fillers in the lips, nasolabial folds, around the mouth and even in the cheeks to help contour the face.
