Acne is the term used to describe blackheads, whiteheads, pimples or any clogged pores that occur on the face or body. Most acne problems occur during the adolescent years, but it can sometimes occur before or even after the teenage years.
Acne can often play a detrimental effect in one’s self-esteem because it ruins the natural beauty of a person’s facial features. Normally, minor acne will come and go on its own, recurring more frequently between the ages of adolescence and becoming less thereafter. Occasionally, acne can continually cause problems for a person later in life. More severe cases of acne can lead to more serious, permanent scarring.
There are a number of techniques available today to treat acne. Doctors can recommend habitual changes in a person’s lifestyle to help reduce the reoccurrence of breakouts. Medications are also often used to lessen the severity of outbreaks. Advanced laser therapies and chemical peels are also available to treat acne.
Mohs Micrographic Surgery
Mohs surgery, also known as microscopically controlled surgery, was developed by Dr. F. Mohs in the 1940’s. It is a common procedure used to treat certain skin cancers and to prevent the recurrence of that cancer. This precise method of treating skin cancers allows us to surgically remove the skin cancer and immediately examine the tissue to identify any remaining cancerous tissue.
Wallis Dermatology is proud to offer an extensive menu of cosmetic procedures and aesthetic services. Our recently expanded list of services allows us to offer a completely comprehensive skin care experience to each of our patients.
XTRAC Laser Treatment
XTRAC Laser treatments are offered by Wallis Dermatology Associates in both Tyler and Longview to treat patients with a diagnosis of Psoriasis or Vitiligo.
Laser Hair Reduction: The reduction of unwanted body hair from virtually any part of the body. The 810 Diode system has been FDA approved and can be used for all ethnic groups and skin colors including tanned skin. The hair must have brown or black hair in the follicle to be effective. Multiple treatments are necessary spaced 6 weeks apart. The treatment is virtually painless so no numbing is needed. Pricing varies per area and can be purchased in induvial treatments or in a package deal (buy 4 treatments, get 1 treatment free). The package is available for each area and must be paid for at the first treatment.
Kybella: Kybella is the first and only FDA approved nonsurgical treatment that contours and improves the appearance of sub-mental fullness. Sub-mental fullness, sometimes referred to as “double chin”, is a common yet under treated facial aesthetic condition that can impact a broad range of adults, including both men and women. The sub-mental fullness may be caused by aging, genetics, or weight gain. Sometimes regardless of diet and exercise, the condition may not go away, and can make you look older and heavier than you actually are. Kybella works by an active ingredient called deoxycholic acid. This is a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into the fat beneath your chin, Kybella causes the destruction of the fat cells. Once destroyed these cells cannot store or accumulate fat. Many patients treated with Kybella experienced visible contouring of their chin profile in 2 to 4 treatments. After the treatment patients can expect swelling, bruising and numbness. Treatments are spaced 8 weeks apart and 2-6 treatments may be needed. Numbing is required.
Microneedling/Dermapen: We use the world’s most advanced and safest micro needling device– Dermapen III. The Dermapen III is a medical precision tool that utilizes surgical grade micro needles to perforate the skin in a perfect motion to activate the body’s repairing mechanism. Micro injuries created by the Dermapen triggers skin cells to intensify the release of its own collagen and elastin to erase years from the skin and allows for deeper penetration of treatment solutions for optimal benefits, treating your skin from inside out. The Dermapen III can be used to treat fine lines and wrinkle, sagging skin, sun damaged skin, discoloration, enlarged pores, stretch marks, scars (surgical, acne, etc.) active ingredient penetration, skin rejuvenation and improvement of skin tone and texture.4-6 treatments are recommended and treatments are performed 4-6 weeks apart. The patient will be red for about 3-5 days, no makeup can be worn for 24 hours, sweating is not recommended for 24 hours as well. Numbing is required. The difference between microneedling and the laser skin resurfacing is that lasers create thermal change in the skin which creates collagen faster. Microneedling is best for infusing activated products.
TruSculpt 3D- truSculpt 3D is a new, nonsurgical radio frequency device designed to sculpt and contour the body. On average, patients who’ve had this treatment have experienced an average of 24% reduction in fat thickness in one treatment. This is a noninvasive procedure with no downtime so you’ll be able to return to your normal activities right after the treatment. You may experience some tenderness in the treatment area right after the treatment but that goes away in a day or two. Right after the treatment, your body will start to break down and flush out the remnants of the fat cells that have been treated, which begins the reduction in the treated area’s circumference. Everybody is different, but most people start seeing noticeable results in 6-8 weeks after being treated.
